Sarabangla Sold by Gazi Group

Online news portal Sarabangla.net launched on December 6, 2017. Although it performed well for the first couple of years, it soon started to struggle. After the changes on August 5, the organization, owned by former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, became even more directionless. There had been talks of a sale for some time, but after Golam Dastagir's arrest, the sale was almost confirmed._x000D_ _x000D_ Two recently dismissed journalists from the organization confirmed to *Bangladesh Media Monitor* that a company named ICC Communication has acquired Sarabangla. When asked about the reason for the sale, one of the journalists said, "Gazi is no longer able to run the portal. They are facing financial difficulties. Even Gazi TV's salaries have become uncertain."_x000D_ _x000D_ The journalist also mentioned that the employees themselves wanted the portal to be sold to someone capable if Gazi could no longer manage it, so their salaries could at least be ensured. However, with a hint of disappointment, the journalist said, "Under the leadership of Rehman Mostafiz, Sarabangla will now operate again, and it is set to become Bangladesh's 'Anandabazar'."_x000D_ _x000D_ Gazi Group will continue paying the portal's salaries until August, after which ICC Communication will take ownership starting September 1.
