DBC News's Mohon Was on the Payroll of DB Harun

Multiple journalists from the television channel have reported that Tariqul Islam, also known as Mohon Islam, a reporter from DBC News, was allegedly on the monthly payroll of Additional Commissioner of Police Harun Or Rashid of the Detective Branch (DB). There are also allegations that Harun paid him a monthly salary from illicit funds. Under Harun's directive, a group of individuals, including Mohon, allegedly legitimized many illegal and brutal acts in the media._x000D_ _x000D_ Mohon is not the only journalist accused of implementing Harun's agenda; several other rogue journalists have also been implicated, with state intelligence agencies reportedly having evidence against them. According to these intelligence sources, a significant amount of money was paid monthly to Mohon and other journalists, who, in return, facilitated the airing of Harun's news across various channels._x000D_ _x000D_ Although Mohon was removed from covering the DB beat nine months ago by DBC News, he remained a key member of Harun's media liaison committee (TV). Some members of the DB office have even referred to Mohon as being close to Harun, indicating the nature of their relationship._x000D_ _x000D_ When questioned by Bangladesh Media Monitor, Mohon denied all allegations. He stated, "I began working on the crime beat after April 2022, covering several reports on DB, the police, and other field-level issues, in compliance with journalistic rules and ethics."_x000D_ _x000D_ Regarding his relationship with Harun, he mentioned, "I know DB's Harun for professional purposes, as do many other journalists in Dhaka. I have covered press conferences and reported on them. The allegation that I am on Harun's payroll is completely false and motivated."_x000D_ _x000D_ Additionally, several of his colleagues have accused Mohon of engaging in an extramarital affair with a presenter, claiming it has disrupted the office environment. They allege that he has been seen frequently associating with the married presenter both inside and outside the office, which they describe as highly inappropriate._x000D_ _x000D_ Mohon has also denied these accusations, stating, "The allegation of an extramarital relationship is false and baseless, and it is an attempt to socially defame me."_x000D_ _x000D_ Due to his close association with DBC News Editor Zayedul Ahsan Pintu, who is known as a 'man' of CRI (Centre for Research and Information), nobody dares to speak against Mohon. "Being close to Pintu means one is above reproach at DBC News," is the current sentiment at the organization._x000D_ _x000D_ When asked about his closeness to Pintu or any involvement with CRI, Mohon responded, "I have no relationship with Pintu of CRI, nor am I a member or beneficiary of it. These allegations are being made to harass me."_x000D_ _x000D_ He further claimed that Pranab Saha and Majumdar Jewel's people are behind his harassment, hinting at factionalism within DBC News.
